For Teachers & Staff

On behalf of the Friends of the Boston Schoolyards, thank you for your support of outdoor learning. Check out curriculum support materials, videos, and other resources for teaching science outdoors on the BPS Science Department's Weebly page and find tips and tricks for managing your space here–this document will be helpful for first time users of the Outdoor Classroom! A more robust Outdoor Classroom Guide can be downloaded by clicking here. This guide includes suggestions for structures, lesson planning, and stewardship. Additionally, a presentation by BPS Assistant Director of Science (P-2) Molly Peters that includes outdoor teaching and learning practices, uses for the FOSS curriculum, and a breakdown of the Massachusetts Science and Technology and Engineering framework transition can be found here.

If you have any ideas you’d like to share or would like to nominate a Schoolyard Champion (teachers, administrators or principals that are great supporters and users of their outdoor space), we’d love if you could share them, along with some information that would be helpful for us, via this survey.

Lastly, if you find maintenance or repair needs in the schoolyard, please report them to your school front office or custodian. Work orders should be submitted as needed to BPS Facilities Management. Take a look at our Maintenance Contact Tree to see who you should be contacting!
